Silent June

Silent June was recorded between August and November 2009 at Belinda and Heidi’s home in Golcar, Huddersfield, mixed and mastered by Neil Ferguson (Chumbawamba).  With their voices and piano as the core sound, this album unveils the joining forces of two highly original and compelling songwriters. Songs include Flight of the Petrel; an avian lament connecting human behaviour with the fragility of our co-existence with nature.   Que Sera examines the subject of war from a woman’s perspective.  Too Old to Dream compares the drab existence of a lady living in a nursing home to her vibrant, younger self. In his BBC review, Colin Irwin says that One More Xmas – a poignant reflection on losing a loved one  may just be the best seasonal song written since Fairytale of New York.

Guest performers include Jackie Oates, Anna Esslemont, Cormac Byrne and The Solo Players string quartet with string arrangements by Melanie Purves.

The photographs on the album were taken by Casey Orr at The Peacock Lounge in Huddersfield and outside The Piano Shop in Leeds.  An old, condemned piano was set on fire for the shoot.  Heidi burnt her neck.

Silent June has received widespread critical acclaim.
